Soumyadeep Datta, a conservation activist, has been wandering through the Sanctuaries and the National Parks with his companions, day after day, for the past four decades. 50-60 years back, the remote area of Assam where he was born and brought up was surrounded by dense forests. He started going to the forest from the age of 9-10, and his natural love for the wilderness was born. Since his early ages he could realize that the practice of destroying forest resources and wildlife since the British period was not controlled even after Independence, despite the forests were protected. Several species of animals are getting extinct and other precious forest resources are disappearing every day due to human greed. He formed his conservationist organization ‘Nature’s Beckon’ at a very young age. He believes that once the biodiversity built up over the years in a forest is destroyed, the loss can never be compensated by planting new trees. Therefore, the forests must be protected at any cost. He has been writing stories about his travels and experiences of different forests of Assam in ‘Rong Route’ magazine of Kolkata for more than ten years. This Book is the compilation of ten such selected stories, translated into English, the objective being to spread the concept of responsible tourism and conservation.
